This mask was originally designed for the Rosson House museum gift shop, here in Phoenix Az. The concept was inspired by Ardern Holt's "What to Wear to Fancy Dress Ball's," which conceptualizes an amazing inventiveness in the costumes of the Victorian era as not only one of the soul forms of self expression for women but also a subtle way in which they could make political statements without stepping out of social mores. Costumes ranged from Our Lady of the Garden to Lady Cholera. This particular mask promotes the banner under which the French Revolution was fought. Liberte, Egalite and Fraternite are inked into banners that cross over an antiqued French Flag. The entire mask is tooled and beveled and outlined in a ridged golden border.
This mask is hand sculpted through a process called wet forming. The mask is then hand dyed and painted with professional quality artists acrylics. The mask is then coated in an archival quality sealant allowing it to handle some moisture while insuring that it will not yellow through U.V. exposure. It is still not recommended that you submerge your mask is water, however a bit of sweat and spot cleaning is just fine. Please note this mask measures 7.25 inches across the eyes.
Why chose leather? In addition to being lightweight, leather will always retain a certain pliability giving it a unique ability to conform over time to the wearer. Happy shopping!
